20-Yard Dumpster Explained
When we say a “20-yard dumpster,” we don’t mean 20 yards long. We mean 20 cubic yards — that’s how much fits inside. Here’s the easy version.
The “yard” in “20-yard dumpster” is short for cubic yards. A cubic yard is just a way to measure space — like a measuring cup, but for junk. A 20-yard dumpster has room for about 20 cubic yards of stuff. The shape of the box doesn’t change that.

Pour one pitcher of water into a tall skinny glass, then into a wide flat bowl. They look nothing alike — but it’s the exact same amount of water. Dumpsters work the same way.
